What in the world is this?

The Wire is a new tool WCCO built for you. We think it's kinda cool ... and we hope you will, too. Our goal is simple: To give you one quick place to catch up on what's going on throughout the day. It's all laid out along a three-day timeline. We'll post updates to news stories, links to fun stuff we find on the Web and details about upcoming events around the area.

I'm lost. How do I get around?

Just grab your mouse and start moving around. You can click and drag back and forth. If you double-click, you'll zoom in. If you hold down the CTRL and double-click, you'll zoom out. The mouse's scroll wheel zooms, too -- just like Google maps. If you prefer to look at all the stuff in a long list instead of a timeline, click "List View" in the upper right. You'll see that we keep yesterday, today and tomorrow together. But you can go forward or back to another three-day period by hitting the "Calendar" button. It's another tab on the upper right. Wanna watch a quick video about how to get around on The Wire? Check out the video at the top of this page.

Who's running it?

There's a bunch of us at WCCO who are working every day -- all day -- trying to keep this thing fresh. But we need your help! See something you want to share an opinion on? Just click "Post a comment" in any story. Got your own suggestion on what you want posted on The Wire? Just hit the "Submit" link in the upper-right hand corner. We'll check it out and you might just see your post on The Wire or even on WCCO-TV newscasts.

What's the point?

Look -- let's be honest. We're not doing this just for fun. We hope you'll stop by at least once a day and see what's up. Maybe you'll follow a link to one of our stories on WCCO.com. Maybe you'll be interested in how a story is developing and you'll want to watch it on one of our newscasts on WCCO-TV. You decide. We hope that by checking out The Wire every once in a while, you'll feel more informed, entertained and connected to our community.

What's in it for me?

Get a sweet t-shirt like this one. You see, we'd really like you to help us tell better stories. So if we ask about something that's coming together early in the day, chime in! If you post a comment about that idea, we might just make it part of our story. And if you submit a post that gets selected to be on the 6 p.m. news, we call that "Flagged For Broadcast." You get to tell your mom you were on TV -- and we will send one person a week a gift with our thanks.

What's News and Buzz?

Good question. We figure news is pretty much what you'd expect. Buzz is just fun stuff you might want to know. Not too important, but it might be something you'd bring up at lunch with your friends.

What are all those blue dots?

The blue dots on the timeline are Twitter updates posted by WCCO staff and other news organizations in the area. They don't have all the fancy pictures and video like the normal dots do. But they’re a quick way for us to get information dropped on The Wire. Wanna see what’s inside a dot? Just hover over it. It'll unfurl. Move your cursor away to close it again.

What's next?

We have a ton of ideas and we're working on a new version of The Wire already.
